Maybe I am just a pessimist, but with how bad the release of the campaign part of Cyberpunk 2077 was, I do not have much hope for how the release of the multiplayer portion of the game will come out. It does not even seem to be of much importance at all to the game as it struggles to fix the many bugs that were present in its release.
CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski expressed how little of a concern the multiplayer aspect of this game was when he stated, “At the moment, please let us handle the situation, and please let us make some more assessments – that’s still ahead of us; we don’t know yet, and we’re now focused on improving Cyberpunk. We’ll discuss this early next year.”
We were told a while ago that Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer was going to be treated like a standalone project. Which is good for letting players know that they are taking it seriously, but bad for players who want to play it anytime soon.
The game honestly has a lot on its plate. There has already been talks of two single player DLC’s that need to be worked on, and I suspect that this will all be done before the developers even take a look at getting started on multiplayer. We have already been told that the two DLC’s will come out before multiplayer. Although we were told that we will get more information at the start of next year, I do not figure that this will be the case. If I had to guess, we will get a ton of information about the DLC at the start of the new year and a little scrap of information about the multiplayer. Then, maybe around May or June, both DLC’s will be released. Finally, probably near the end of next year, if we are lucky, multiplayer will be released, and I expect it to be pretty buggy just like the campaign was when it was released.
There are so many questions left unanswered for fans. We really have no idea what a multiplayer version of the game could even look like. Would it be similar to GTA V’s fantastic multiplayer, or would they try and take it in a different direction in order to give the game some individuality? We will just have to wait (a long time) to see. At least we know that that the multiplayer is going to be a free add on when it does come out, and players will not have to pay extra.
