Innersloth’s Among Us beat out Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Warzone, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and Valorant for the award. In a zoom-ish acceptance speech, the developers were thankful for the award and looked towards the future.

The award was presented by Nolan North, the voice actor for Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, after a brief introduction from actor Tom Holland, who will be playing Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie.

Among Us, developed in 2018, received massive popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming a sleeper hit. This rise in popularity pushed Innersloth to cancel the sequel to the game, instead focusing their attention on perfecting the user experiences and providing maintenance.

Starting in 2014, the Game Awards have seen an exponential growth over the past seven years. After initially having 1.9 million viewers during the first broadcast, 2019 saw that number increase to almost 50 million viewers.

The Game Awards, hosted by Geoff Kingly, are currently being broadcast live on numerous streaming platforms, including Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook Live.
