For the first time since May of 2019, Overwatch is getting a new map. Named Kanezaka, the map is the second in Overwatch to be located in Japan and will fall under the Free-For-All mode.
The last Overwatch map to be revealed by Blizzard was Escort map Havana, which was released back on May 7 2019. Kenzaka, which will be a part of the Deathmatch mode, will be the first of its kind since May 19 2018, when Petra was released by Blizzard.
The Overwatch devs released an official video reveal of Kanezaka on their Twitter page. In the typical Overwatch ambience, Kanezaka features a shady nightclub, as well as the “Cat Cafe,” a ramen shop lined with pictures of cats on the wall. The cafe even has a cat tree, where the virtual residents of Kanezaka are sure to play with their virtual furry friends.
In an Easter Egg of sorts, the skyline of Hanamura can be seen in the background of the video, which was the first Overwatch map based in Japan to be released.
Kanezaka is testing right now on the PTR, and is set to go live for the public sometime in early 2021. If fans can’t wait that long for new Overwatch content, the Winter Wonderland event is live now for players to enjoy.
