Fnatic enters the free agency period after bidding their legend Martin “Rekkles” Larson farewell. The official announcement was made on Fnatic’s social media accounts. Rekkles had been a part of Fnatic since 2015.

The LEC representative shared the tweet with a caption: “The only thing certain in life is change.” Fnatic also made a statement on their website, which thanked Rekkles for all his achievements while wearing black and orange. “In the last few hours, Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson has informed us of his decision to sign for another team in this offseason period.”

Rekkles had been the core of Fnatic for nearly six years, and wore the jersey for seven years in total. Fnatic emphasized this decision “wasn’t based on financial gain.”

“For transparency into the process, Martin had previously indicated his preference to stay and re-sign earlier this year, and after the largest offer Fnatic has ever made to a player – including a long term plan for his future after his playing career- Martin has made the decision to move on,” the statement said.

Rekkles finished LEC 2020 Summer split in second place, with Fnatic by losing to G2 3-2 in the playoff finals. In Worlds 2020, the Swedish carry put forth a phenomenal performance alongside his lane buddy Hylissang, helping his team qualify for the next stage. In the quarter finals, Fnatic faced China’s first seed TOP Esports in a best-of-five series, gaining a 2-0 lead. However, they couldn’t protect it, and were reverse swept by TOP Esports.

While sad to see him go, Fnatic mentioned they’re excited for the new era as, “One of the world’s most successful League of Legends teams.” Full information of Fnatic’s plans for the years ahead will be released in the upcoming days.
