The newest title in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has begun its journey with a record. According to Anna Malmhake, Managing Director of Activision Blizzard, Cold War’s day 1 digital sales were the highest in franchise history.
In a statement, the Managing Director explained, “Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere.” Unfortunately, no sales figures were published.
The newest title has been awaited with huge expectations by players thanks to the success of its predecessors Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile. Activision Blizzard has managed to provide extremely high-quality content in the past, and it looks like this trend is going to remain the same. Anna Malmhake continued, “Launch is just the start. This new title is releasing into the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community ever.”
“We look forward to delivering an incredible amount of free post launch content, events and support for the entire community as Black Ops Cold War evolves just as we did last year following the release of Modern Warfare.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was released on November 13th worldwide for PC, current-generation consoles and next-generation consoles, and it had a couple of server issues alongside a few bugs on-launch. However, problems were solved quickly and players enjoyed the debut of the game all around the world. As an addition, Call of Duty League’s teams have been organizing a Launch Week event that features seven different tournaments with the biggest players in the community. The event will continue on November 20th.
