Call of Duty League 2021 Opening Weekend Recap

We witnessed a crazy opening with the first week of the 2021 Call of Duty League season. The league’s new member, the Los Angeles Thieves, proved their worth, and the latest champion, Dallas Empire, dropped a game. The first week was so competitive that the accuracy of fan power rankings are nowhere near correct.

The 2021 season started with a match between LA Thieves and Minnesota ROKKR. Nadeshot’s Thieves showed a great performance and started their franchise history with a solid win. Dallas Empire took the spotlight on itself in the second match and sweeped Seattle Surge. C6 and his friends showed what they are capable of but were unable to beat Minnesota ROKKR in their second game.

CDL First Week Results

  • Los Angeles Thieves | 3 – 1 | Minnesota ROKKR
  • Dallas Empire | 3 – 0 | Seattle Surge
  • OpTic Chicago | 3 – 0 | Paris Legion
  • Atlanta FaZe | 3 – 0 | Los Angeles Guerillas
  • Los Angeles Guerillas | 3 – 2 | Paris Legion
  • Toronto Ultra | 3 – 1 | Florida Mutineers
  • Los Angeles Thieves | 3 – 0 | New York Subliners
  • Seattle Surge | 3 – 2 | London Royal Ravens
  • Minnesota ROKKR | 3 – 2 | Dallas Empire
  • Atlanta FaZe | 3 – 2 | OpTic Chicago

Both groups have undefeated leaders, the Atlanta FaZe and Los Angeles Thieves. The LA Thieves only dropped one game in two matches whereas FaZe dropped two. The Los Angeles Thieves will face Seattle Surge in the second week, and considering the Surge’s performance against Dallas Empire, it might be a one-sided win in favor of the Thieves. Atlanta FaZe’s opponent is a lot tougher. FaZe will face Toronto Ultra, which managed to beat the Florida Mutineers in the first week.

To be honest, we expected a 2-0 from Dallas Empire, but with the changed rules, nothing is predictable yet. The latest champion couldn’t perform its best against Minnesota ROKKR, but the team’s one-sided win against Seattle Surge was pretty solid.

I can’t wait to watch the second week since there will be more competition. Paris Legion will try to get its first win against the Mutineers. On the other hand, Toronto Ultra will face Atlanta FaZe and OpTic Chicago. It will be a decider week for the Ultra about their future in the league.
