In today’s world of gaming, nearly every game features inevitable DLCs. From Call of Duty to Super Smash Bros., game developers usually prefer the downloadable route to expand their games to make more profit. As you might guess, CD Projekt Red plans to bring additional DLCs to their upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077. However, further contents have been postponed due to countless releasing delays.
Cyberpunk 2077‘s delays turned into memes on social media a long time ago. CD Projekt started working on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2013, and last year, the game finally had its release date set for April 16th, 2020. But expectations never become a reality, right? First, the game release was pushed to September 17th, then November 19th, and lastly December 10th. Cyberpunk was delayed three times in total, and these delays caused changes in the plans of the developers.
At the very least, CD Projekt’s latest title was expected to have DLCs ready upon release. Unfortunately, plans have been changed. CEO Adam Kiciński said of DLC delays, “The initial plan was to do before release, but after the recent delay, we decided to wait for the release to provide gamers with the game and then start talking about future projects. So, after release.”
Lucky us, Cyberpunk 2077 will receive after-release content, just like Witcher 3. If you don’t know anything about W3, the game received two story expansions that contain an additional 30 hours of gameplay in total alongside 16 DLCs which consist of mostly cosmetics.
In the company’s Q3 Earnings Call, Adam Kiciński also mentioned the future of multiplayer in the game. “It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production,” he said. “We think about it as a standalone product. Obviously, it’s not entirely standalone as it comes from the universe of Cyberpunk and is very much related to the concept of single player Cyberpunk.”
We don’t have any release date for Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer, but further details might be revealed in March 2021, as Kiciński said.
Hopefully, there won’t be another delay, and Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on December 10th. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
