If content creators are good at anything, it would have to be creating. In that very spirit, a group of popular streamers has joined forces to create a brand-new esports organization: One True King. Also known as OTK, this new collective is intended to function as an esports organization specifically created and run by content creators. As such, the gang behind the group, streamers Asmongold, Rich Cambell, Mizkif, Esfand, and TipsOut, plan for One True King to diverge from the expected esports team model.
In order to forge their own sort of esports organization, OTK’s founders have made the decision to focus on establishing themselves as a brand and the ethos of a media production company. That doesn’t mean they won’t have a competitive branch as well. In fact, the organization recently announced their official World of Warcraft esports team consisting of established WOW competitors Trill, Cdew, Mes, and Samiyan.
An article from Dot Esports goes into how the five founders ultimately came together to form OTK, stating that “This has been in the works for months… since Esfand, Asmongold, and Rich participated in a World of Warcraft dueling tournament together.” Apparently, TipsOut and Mizkif came on board as things progressed, TipsOut’s role being “to help execute the formation and future ideas, while Mizkif was brought into the fold to diversify the content pool as the final piece.”
Now that they’ve officially made their debut, One True King is working to continue to establish themselves. The plan is for the Austin, Texas based organization to work as a network, “collaborating on various projects, partnering with other creators.” In the meantime, plans are being made for OTK to host “a Race to World First in WoW, working as an independent party to cover everything that happens,” as well as a live Dungeons and Dragons campaign, Classic WoW speedruns, and more.
One of the most exciting aspects of the continued rise of esports is the amount of opportunity it allows for enterprising gamers to go forth and create opportunities for themselves. A lot can be done with creativity, drive, and collaboration. If nothing else, Asmongold, Rich Cambell, Mizkif, Esfand, and TipsOut have proven that the first step in a mission aimed at “empowering talented content creators” is to empower yourself.
