Let’s face it: we all want to have a romantic evening with Keanu Reeves. We all want a swanky candlelit dinner in Westbrook, a scenic drive through the Badlands, and then a sensual moment of pause when Keanu asks you if you want to go up to his Night City apartment.
What we got instead was a mod where Keanu’s skin was layered over a joytoy model who could be paid a hundred eurodollars for a Night City hotel room quickie, at least before CD Projekt asked for the mod to be taken down.
The mod, while it was available to the PC gaming public, allowed tech-savvy players to essentially swap skins on different character models in the game, including the in-game cybernetic escorts known as joytoys.
And while that may make some horndogs out there eager to hop on to Nexus Mods and get down to doing-the-do with Keanu, CD Projekt Red has stepped in to keep our breathtaking boy chaste, limiting the “getting it on” to the handful of in-game sex scene’s from Johnny Silverhand’s POV.
In a statement to PCGamer, CD Projekt Red explained that their “most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can’t be harmful towards others.”
The statement from CDPR goes on to explain that the mod allowing players to swap a joytoy out for Keanu Reeves without permission to use his likeness violates that rule. And I suppose that’s fair enough, though it also reads like CDPR is doing their best to dodge another lawsuit.
For now, it looks like we’ll be left living our fantasy for a romantic evening with Keanu Reeves to the handful of CDPR-sanctioned sex scenes from Jonny Silverhand’s POV and that one scene in The Matrix Reloaded.
In the meantime, here’s the same mod with Johnny’s arch nemesis Adam Smasher who, as far as I know, doesn’t share likeness with any real person, living or dead.
With a name like “Smasher,” I suppose it wasn’t that far of a stretch.
