Doom Is Hitting Mobile

Yes, you read that title right. Somewhere, the stars aligned just right enough for this idea to be greenlighted, and it’s now on the way to the app store shelf. Don’t expect any gory combat here, but another 3D, top-down game that the app store is finding itself to be oversaturated with.

Footage of the early-access gameplay found its way to YouTube. The video lasts a little over 21 minutes and shows gameplay that is strikingly similar to Archero, enough to where you can’t help but wonder if Habby is looking to get lawyers involved. You’re able to level up Doom-Guy and add on abilities you’ll find while killing demons. These can be minor damage upgrades, increased rate of fire, increased movement speed, etc.

This isn’t the first time Doom has hit mobile phones either. If you’re old enough, you may remember the Doom: RPG game that came out for flip phones.

Making a comeback in the Doom franchise is the much-beloved music, but it doesn’t hit the nail on the head as much as we would want it to. Thankfully, the game is still in early access, so the music, as well as other gameplay mechanics, can be adjusted before the app’s full release.

Conclusion

Doom going mobile was something that was bound to happen. Many other franchises like Tomb Raider have seen some revitalization thanks to mobile games, and even though this looks like an almost exact replica of Archero, many mobile games are copy-and-paste games with minor tweaks. While I’m definitely excited to play the game, I can’t help but feel like it’ll be something I’d play because I was bored with whatever I was watching on YouTube.
