Another day, another message from Valve the Dota 2 community feels mixed signals for. Some sigh with relief as they no longer wake up with nightmares of Beastmaster Boar chasing them in their dreams, while some gently wave goodbye to their MMR-garnering love from the patch before.
7.28c is here, and it reduces the early-game prowess of heroes that have proven to be a menace in the last month or so since 7.28b dropped. Expect to see less of early-game powerhouses in your matches to come along with slight nefs and tweaks to heroes who were proving to be too good for their own good. Here are the 7.28c changes:
Batrider’s Sticky Napalm now deals 50% less damage against all creeps. Bad news for all Bat players, especially monkeys-forever. Farming is insanely slower for the hero now.
Beastmaster’s base attack speed is now 110 instead of 100. Call of the Wild Boar movement speed has been reduced from 350 to 320/330/340/350, giving some respite from the trauma the boar gave in the early game.
Earthshaker’s Fissure Shard aftershocks now stun for half the duration instead of full. Goodbye to being perma-stunned till death. The Morphling + Earthshaker combo should be a little easier to bear with this change.
Keeper of the Light’s Recall ability’s delay has been increased from 3 seconds to 5/4/3 seconds. A minuscule change, and I’m not sure what it will do for the hero right now. Time will tell.
Lycan’s Summon Wolves duration has been reduced from 55 to 50 seconds. Another much-needed nerf for a hero who saw a consistent 60% winrate in the highest brackets.
Morphling’s Morph cooldown has been rescaled from 160/100/40s to 140/100/60s. The major nerf the hero got was his Scepter bonus cast range, which was reduced from 600 to 300 and made his combination with Earthshaker slightly more bearable. To counteract the ult cooldown nerf, Morph’s scepter now reduces Morph cooldown by 20 seconds.
Nature’s Prophet’s Greater Treants Base Attack Time has been increased from 1.0 to 1.4, so now, wayward supports who think they can get some extra cash for their boots don’t die in two hits.
Nyx Assassin has been one of the most picked and banned heroes in the DPC 2021, given his last set of buffs. 7.28c makes Vendetta no longer apply the ‘Break’ status. This change means Nyx is no longer a direct counter to many tanky heroes like Axe, Underlord, Centaur, et al.
Vendetta cooldown has also been increased from 90/70/50s to 90/75/60s. The hero still seems a top-tier pick for most games regardless of the nerfs given the hero’s toolkit and the still-prevalent Meteor Hammer combo.
Racecar Outworld Destroyer’s Movement Speed has been reduced from 325 to 320. His base armor has been reduced by 1, sparking a new overlay on the old ‘+1 armor’ meme.
Arcane Orb’s cooldown has been increased from 4/3/2/0s to 6/4/2/0s, making OD less of an early game instagibber. Astral Imprisonment’s mana cost has been increased from 120 to 150, which counteracts his early game nuisance.
Puck’s base damage range is now 46-57 versus the earlier 46-54. Waning Rift damage has been reduced from 70/140/210/280 to 70/130/190/250, and Dream Coil Scepter stun duration has been reduced from 2/3.25/4.5s to 2/3/4s. A pretty basic nerf for a hero who has been seeing strong pick and win rates.
Since the last patch, Riki has been the pub stomper with the Daedalus-Battlefury combo since his Scepter allowed him to hit two units in 7.28. So it’s more than fair that 7.28c made Tricks of the Trade Scepter no longer increase the skill’s duration at least. His Level 25 Talent has been nerfed as well, getting changed from -6s Tricks of the Trade Cooldown to -4s.
Shadow Shaman’s Shackles Shard cast range has been reduced from 150 to 125. Given that SS is one of the few support heroes who can win games, his Shard upgrade allowing him to 1v1 many scenarios was a bit too strong. This nerf counteracts the hero’s 1v1 aspect a little.
Void Spirit received a minor tweak, as his base damage was reduced by 2.
Wraith King’s Wraithfire Blast cooldown has been increased from 14/12/10/8s to 17/14/11/8s, while Vampiric Spirit skeletons’ base damage has been reduced by 3. WK farms a bit too fast with his skeletons, so it makes sense that the skellies received a damage nerf, making the hero a little bit less than too-good.
7.28c changes won’t affect the game meta much. With a bunch of DPC games remaining in this season, any meta changes should reflect pretty quickly in pro plays. Soon, you can see your pubs ruined and salvaged in new and creative ways.
