When the Epic Games Store (EGS) was established in 2018, nearly everyone in the gaming community wondered if Epic Games’ new digital market could beat Steam. Now, 2 years after the release, EGS has revealed its fantastic numbers for 2020. According to the statement, users spent $700 million on the store in 2020.
On January 28, Epic Games published an article which reviewed the last year of the Epic Games Store and its unveiled numbers exposed the success of the digital market. The company shared several details about the store, including its number of customers. In 2020, EGS reached more than 160 million users.
It’s obvious that giving out so many free games helped them achieve this huge milestone. In 2020, 103 games worth $2,407 were distributed and collected +749 million times by users. If you haven’t obtained any of these games, don’t worry: Epic is still giving out free titles every week.
Fortnite has been playing a big role in the success of EGS as the carrier which still protects its ground in 2021. Even adding unique titles into the store wasn’t enough to surpass Fortnite last year. As Epic Games revealed, the most popular titles in EGS looked like this:

- Rocket League
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2
- Grand Theft Auto V

“We’re improving existing features like Wishlists and Achievements in 2021. There’s a major priority to release more community-oriented features that provide a more personalized experience.” Epic Games said. Wishlist Improvements, Social Overhaul, Achievements, Player Profiles and more unique titles in the market will be the focus of the company in 2021.
