It’s been over seven years since GTA Online was first released, and since that time there have been seven heists. The initial release saw five heists introduced, with Rockstar introducing two more in subsequent years: The Doomsday Heist in 2017 and the Diamond Casino Heist in 2019. Now, on Dec. 15, GTA Online’s newest and biggest update will feature a new area, as well as a new heist: the Cayo Perico Heist.
This new heist on the horizon looks to be a spectacular event. Rockstar recently teased The Cayo Perico Heist in a newswire update on Nov. 20. This time around finds players on a private island avoiding heavily armed guards, through stealth or otherwise, to steal as much evidence, art, gold or drug money as they can carry.
What makes this heist different from others is that now, players can do it entirely solo. This is a welcome change for players who like to do things by themselves, as previous heists required at least two players to complete, with four of the first five requiring at least four players at all times.
(A quick aside: by allowing players to complete this Heist solo, the amount of times the “Setup/Heist Failed: Heist Crew Left” screen appears will decrease exponentially. Lots of headaches spared there.)
Additionally, Rockstar teased a new Heist location, as well as new design elements and a new way to set up heists. With this new location comes new vehicles, weapons, and social spaces along with new guest DJs. There will also be 100 new songs added to the game on the new radio stations.
Lastly, a heavily-armed submarine will be available to players. This will mark the third usable submersible in the game, joining the aptly named “Submersible” and “Kraken.” No word yet on how much it will cost, but considering how incredibly expensive some vehicles are in GTA Online, expect the submarine and its purported armaments and upgrades to cost a pretty penny.
However, with microtransactions, players that want said vehicles and items will get it regardless.
Moreover, with the news of GTA Online’s newest update, it seems unlikely that the rumored GTA VI will come out anytime soon. Considering that GTA V is still a fixture on multiple gaming charts, it appears that GTA Online will be here to stay, regardless of opinion.
At any rate, check out the trailer below and be on the lookout for more news on the Cayo Perico Heist in the coming weeks.
