Hades beat out other indie game favorites such as Carrion, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Spelunky 2 and Spiritfarer.

Hades took the world by storm this year in both a competitive and artistically designed manner. Published by indie gaming company Supergiant Games, Hades takes you to the underworld to play as Zagreus, son of Hades, the god of underworld, as he makes his ascent out of the underworld to Mount Olympus. At each level, players face new bosses, new challenges and access to brand new weapons and tools to make their run against Hades and other demons of the underworld.

In a tweet from Supergiant Games on Thursday, the company expressed their gratitude for the fans and expressed their support for Hades and their other titles. “We are very grateful, and feel extraordinarily fortunate to have been able to make games our way and stick together for more than 10 years now,” said Supergiant. “Hades couldn’t have happened if not for our past games.”

Aside from its success on a gaming platform, Hades has become a global speedrunning phenomenon.

This is not the only award Hades was nominated for this cycle. Hades is nominated for eight games including Game of the Year. It won two awards including Best Action Game, and more to potentially be announced.
