The game industry improves every year, and this year was no different: companies launched some exciting games in 2020. As esports spreads across the world, companies sell their games more and player bases increase. Steam, one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, revealed their most-played games in 2020. Don’t expect anything super weird since all of the games on the list are pretty trending nowadays.
Games Peak Concurrent Player Count Over 200,000
- Destiny 2
- Among Us
- Dota 2
- Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds
- Monster Hunter: World
- Grand Theft Auto 5
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Life Is Strange 2
- Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord
- Counter Strike: Global Offensive
It is not surprising to see these games on the peak concurrent player list. GTA 5, Destiny 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive are legendary games that never get old. On the other hand, two of this year’s most anticipated games Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord and Cyberpunk 2077 also made it to the list. Both of them got players hyped but could not really meet the expectations.
Life is Strange might surprise a handful of people since it’s not an online game. Among Us maybe had one of the biggest launches ever in gaming history. The game’s connective environment caught people’s attention.
According to Steam, last year only 12 games surpassed the 100,000 simultaneous player barrier, but this year the number increased to 26. This is mostly because of Covid, since people are stuck in their homes and have nothing to do but play games.
Even if the main reason behind it is Covid, it is still a huge progress. If the pandemic ends next year, gaming culture will still stay with people, inoculated in their veins. If you don’t believe me, you can find the whole Steam list here and make that judgment for yourself.
