I’ve been an Xbox fanboy for as long as I can remember. When I got my first game console, it just happened to be an Xbox instead of a PlayStation. With that twist of fate, my destiny was set: I was 100% transformed into an Xbox player over a PlayStation player.
This doesn’t mean that I have never played video games on a PlayStation. In fact, there have been numerous times throughout my life that I’ve played on a friend’s console or even a family member’s. But it’s never felt the same as playing on my trusty Xbox, and I believe it has all to do with the controller. To put it bluntly, I hate the PlayStation controller.
For some reason or another, it just doesn’t feel right in my hands. I am not sure if this is because I picked up an Xbox controller first when I was a wee boy, but every time I hop on a PlayStation, I feel like I’m holding a block of brick instead of a controller. For some reason, no matter how many times I pick it up, I can’t get used to it.
I was actually concerned that I was the only one who felt this way. I’ve talked to all my friends about it, and they’re pretty split in their console purchases, but none of them felt the same way I did. I was about to start thinking I was crazy until I stumbled upon a reddit user who felt the same way I did. I’ve got to say, I think that me and this kid may be brothers from another mother, as I have never related to a post more than I did with him.
So why do I dislike the controller? For starters, the buttons feel clunky and non-responsive. I also feel like it is so much bigger than the Xbox controller, which makes it almost impossible to hold. Finally, I feel that the buttons are so far apart, it’s harder to move your fingers quickly. On more of a minor note, I also think that the controller is just all-around ugly.
I am fully willing to admit that all of this is just in my head and there is nothing wrong with PlayStation controllers whatsoever. But what do you all think? Do any of you agree with me, or am I just being too hard on PlayStation controllers?
