Is It Worth Buying Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War? A First Glance

With the recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, I did some research and played a little of the game myself to answer the question for all of you: is the game worth buying? The answer is, well, it depends. Let me explain.

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the most well-versed in the game: I have only played a couple games of Zombies, and maybe two hours of the multiplayer. I haven’t even touched the campaign, so my verdict doesn’t include how good or bad that part of the game may be. All this article seeks to lay out is my opinion on whether, after one night, I feel like I wasted $60.

My roommate Max, who also played the game the night it came out, summed it up pretty well: “It is fun for what it is. It is very different from the last Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare, and that is one of the best things the game has going for it.” One of the things I used to hate about Call of Duty was that I felt like I wasted my money every year when the game felt the exact same. Cold War seems to have a faster pace than Modern Warfare, which is good, but it can make for some really sweaty lobbies. I am by no means good at CoD, but I still found myself dying a ton. I feel as though players are going to be surprised about the different strategies they need to have when it comes to this game.

Zombies mode is dope. No other way to really say it. I only played two or three games, but I honestly had more fun playing that mode than I did multiplayer. I am pretty excited to keep playing and see what more the mode has to offer.

As I said before, I haven’t even touched the campaign mode of this game, and I honestly don’t really care about it. Year after year, all the campaigns are always the same. Yeah, they have good stories sometimes, but they are usually repetitive and don’t capture my attention. That may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t care. Sue me. My final verdict after a couple hours of playing the game: it is solid. I honestly did not feel like I wasted my money. It is a classic CoD game and it fits that role well. If you have 60 bucks to spare and are getting bored of Modern Warfare, buy this game: you won’t regret it.

I am still hesitant about buying this game. I will wait until it is under 20 dollars. 60 is way too high to pay for a game. After all, no matter what it is call of duty. Same ole same ole.
