Yesterday (December 30) Luminosity Gaming, one of the largest esports organizations in North America, recruited one of its highest profile acquisitions to date. The premiere org welcomed three-time FNCS finalist and elite European prodi… just kidding, they welcomed a dog.
Meet the new face of Luminosity Gaming: LG Luna! The Canadian based organization appointed the pooch as its official mascot in what was a unique and unprecedented move for the ages.
Sports have been one of the world’s favorite past times for decades. There are few things in this world that both unite and divide a group of people the way a heated athletic bout for supremacy can—especially amongst rivals, or championship games. The majority of teams that partake in these competitions all have one similar figure that is used to symbolize their organizations—a mascot.
Esports has graduated to cultural phenomenon status due to its meteoric rise in popularity over the past decade. In fact, the largest events have rivaled in audience viewership with the likes of the Super Bowl. Esports has also been officially recognized as a sport in recent years, and has been consistently covered by ESPN since 2016. One thing professional gaming is not known for though is having a consistent, lively figure cheering for their teams during the heat of competitive play — understandably so, given the nature of the trade.
Luminosity Gaming and their newfound companion are now the pioneers to an otherwise unusual notion of mascots in gaming.
Luna will undoubtedly go down in history as a legend in the doggy community, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the icon, Air Bud.
Pawsitive vibes only.
