The LEC 2021 spring season has ended for some of the teams, and they have already started to build for next season. Astralis revealed the contract extension of Carl Felix “MagiFelix” Boström while parting ways with Erlend Våtevik “Nukeduck” Holm.
Its first season in LEC wasn’t pleasing for Astralis. After the organization announced the decision of competing in every esport under the same name, Origen was rebranded as Astralis in LEC’s last offseason. Instead of keeping the remaining roster, the team created a new roster around star mid laner Nukeduck to compete in the league.
However, things didn’t go as expected for Astralis. Containing a lot of rookies, the roster struggled from the beginning of the league. In February, when everything was going the opposite direction of expectations, more bad news came from Nukeduck. Following consecutive losses Astralis took, Nukeduck announced that he would take a break from competitive play due to personal reasons. After the sudden news, MagiFelix joined the team temporarily.
With the latest statement the organization posted, MagiFelix has become the permanent mid laner of the roster for the LEC 2021 summer season. Nukeduck, on the other hand, bid farewell to Astralis after the two seasons he spent here. “Huge thank you for being a part of the Astralis Family for so long and all the best to you in the future.” the team said about Nukeduck on Twitter.
Astralis performed better overall after MagiFelix joined the team, but to be honest, there are so many things it should improve on if it wants to place better in the standings next season.
Astralis’ full roster is now:
- Matti “WhiteKnight” Sormunen
- Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov
- Carl Felix “MagiFelix” Boström
- Jesper Klarin “Jeskla” Strömberg
- Hampus Mikael “promisq” Abrahamsson
