OG announced on Twitter that the organization has parted ways with its mid laner, Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng. The announcement came shortly after the team failed to qualify for PGL’s ONE Esports Singapore Major.
“Sometimes even when you gave it your all, an adjustment is still needed. @midonedota2‘s talent and mischievous energy brought immense amounts of joy to everyone around him,” OG said in the Tweet.
OG managed to place fifth in the Season 1 of the Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Europe Upper Division. It earned $25,000 and a mere 50 DPC points after losing to Team Liquid in a tiebreaker series which determined the Wild Card entry qualification to the Singapore Major.
Team Nigma was the only team that placed above OG and lost a series to them. OG lost all of the rest of the series against the teams placed above them in the DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU Upper Division.
OG released a statement on its website detailing a little about MidOne’s parting. Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, OG’s captain, said “I want to thank Yeik for his hard work, and for the sacrifices he has made for OG and for the Team. He is an extraordinary player, and is unfortunate we couldn’t get better results together.”
OG’s former coach, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, said that the “unique and complex” competitive synergy of the game might have been a factor in the team never “clicking” with the player.
“Yeik is one of the best players… we worked very hard for months and made a lot of improvements… but unfortunately, it never ‘clicked’. It happens sometimes,” Ceb said in OG’s statement.
MidOne’s only notable achievement with OG esports was the second-place finish in the OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division. OG was handily defeated in the finals by MidOne’s former teammates in Team Secret.
After failing to qualify for the Singapore Major, OG will be trying for a spot at The International by “welcoming a carry player approaching the Season 2 of DPC 2021.” In all likelihood, as is OG’s want at this point, Anathan “ana” Pham will be returning to the team if the last two years are anything to go by. At this point, it is a trend for ana to go on a vacation after winning The International, only to come back to the team once he’s really needed.
