The Pokemon Company officially unveiled the release dates for the upcoming, and highly anticipated, Nintendo Switch Pokemon titles, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends Arceus.
The first two of the three upcoming Pokemon titles are slated for release in the fall of this year on November 19, while Pokemon Legends Arceus will come early next year, January 28, 2022. These announcements come exactly 3 months after the games were originally revealed at the February 26 Pokemon Presents broadcast, which celebrated the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will once again be able to traverse the Sinnoh region in this updated and enhanced experience for the Nintendo Switch. These updated versions are the long awaited remakes of the original Generation IV Pokemon games, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Versions, which were originally released in 2007 (2006 in Japan). These remakes come long after the series’ last set for Generation III, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which were released 7 years ago in November 2014.
Alongside the Generation IV remakes comes a brand new installment to the Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Legends Arceus, a title that moves away from the conventional elements of the main games and takes players back to prehistoric days. Pokemon Legends Arceus was also announced at the February 26 Pokemon Presents broadcast. In light of this milestone year for Pokemon, Pokemon Legends Arceus is a title that appropriately marks a new era for the series as a whole.
Like Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it will also take place in the Sinnoh region, but in its primeval form, where the land is a mostly open wilderness as opposed to the bustling metropolis of its modern day incarnation. With its completely new backdrop, elements, and never-before-seen stature in the series, Arceus potentially marks itself as one of the biggest upcoming releases for Pokemon and for Nintendo.
With regard to its recently celebrated 25th Anniversary, much is to come for the Pokemon series. Preorders for Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Arceus are available now.
