After a year of waiting, Riot Games has unveiled the new rework for Dr. Mundo. One of League’s oldest champions, Dr. Mundo has been terrorizing the rift as a go-forward and healing madman. However, the champion was in need of a update – and Riot provided. Here’s an update to the Madman of Zaun.
Passive – Go Where He Pleases
Dr. Mundo resists the next immobilizing effect that hits him, instead losing current health and dropping a chemical cannister nearby. Dr. Mundo can pick it up by walking over it, restoring a portion of maximum health and reducing this passive’s cooldown. Enemies moving over the cannister destroy it.
Dr. Mundo also has increased health regeneration based on his maximum health.
As shown, Dr. Mundo’s passive has been updated. Keeping with the theme of being a healing tank that can run at a player with unstoppable force, Riot Games added a cannister that’s dropped when Mundo is attacked by a crowd control effect such as a stun or a root. This allows Mundo to be free of the CC and gain additional health while also reducing the ability’s cooldown. However, like other abilities, such as Bard, enemy champions can destroy it before Mundo reaches it.
Q – Infected Bonesaw
Dr. Mundo throws an infected bonesaw, dealing magic damage to the first enemy hit based on their current health and slowing them.
In one of the initial VGU Update Blogs, Riot Games confirmed they wanted to keep Mundo simple in the rework, while also keeping some of his abilities in tact. As such, his Q has no changes. He throws his cleaver at the enemy, causing them to slow and lose health based on their current health when attacked.
W – Heart Stopper
Dr. Mundo electrocutes himself for a few seconds, dealing persistent magic damage to nearby enemies and storing a portion of damage he takes as grey health. At the end of the duration, Dr. Mundo deals a burst of magic damage to nearby enemies and heals his grey health if an enemy is hit (heal reduced if only minions or monsters are hit). Dr. Mundo can recast Heart Zapper to end its effects early.
Talk about shocking, am I right? Dr. Mundo’s W was probably one of the most clunky elements of his previous kit, though an ability that burned health while also regenning it at the same time was a bit unusual. Riot transformed the ability into more of an AOE effect, electrocuting enemies around him and keeping a grey-health bar. When the effect is over, it explodes and heals Dr. Mundo if an enemy is hit.
E – Blunt Force Trauma
Passive – Dr. Mundo has bonus attack damage, increasing based on his missing health.
Active – Dr. Mundo slams his “medical” bag into an enemy, dealing physical damage based on his missing health. If the enemy dies they are swatted away, dealing this ability’s minimum damage to enemies they pass through.
The other ability to change was his E. Once a head-banger, Mundo throws his “medical” bag at an enemy dealing damage based on his missing health. This is a very strong ability, considering Mundo’s kit still revolves around how much health he’s missing. The more health lost, the bigger the impact.
R – Maximum Dosage
Dr. Mundo pumps himself with chemicals, instantly healing a percent of his missing health. He then heals a portion of his maximum health over a long duration, gaining bonus movement speed and attack damage while healing.
Finally, we have Mundo’s most recognizable ability – now with more shirt rippage.
Mundo’s old Ultimate returns as a tanky brute that heals every second – making the return of his most iconic and powerful ability.
What Else Is Coming?
Dr. Mundo’s skins are also getting a revamp, as with every rework comes a new set of skins. Our favorites include Corporate Mundo – now with new VGUs, voicelines and a swanky new car.
The other is his Rageborn skin, which is getting new armor, new hair and some fire to his eyes.
My personal favorite skin getting an update is one of his legacy skins – Mundo Mundo. This turns Mundo into a cosplay of Mundo – pretty adorable.
Riot also announced that some of his legacy skins will be returning to the shop for a limited time.
Dr. Mundo heads to the PBE this Wednesday and is expected to be released to the public on June 9th 2021.
