The E3 hype continues! Check out all of the exciting game announcements from the Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase!
Guardians of the Galaxy
Eidos-Montréal’s long-rumored fresh adaptation of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was finally announced. Both the trailer and the lengthy gameplay showcase hinted this was Square Enix’s central announcement of the showcase. The action RPG will be released on PS5 and 4, XBox One and Series X, and PC on October 26, 2021.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
For Final Fantasy lovers of all ages, the announcement of a comprehensive, remastered collection of the first six games is welcome news. The six-in-one will release on Steam, the App Store, and Google Play “soon.”
Legend of Mana
We already knew about this one. It’s coming out on June 24th on PS4, and the hype continues.
The news here was a brand new expansion – Black Panther: War For Wakanda – which will be included at no additional cost with the base Marvel’s Avengers game.
The Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase featured a slew of incoming mobile games to look out for, including:
- Hitman Sniper: The Shadows [Coming 2021]
- NieR Re[in]carnation [Pre-registration open NOW]
- FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER [Coming 2021]
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will also celebrate its 5th anniversary this year and a new special countdown campaign will begin on June 17. Additionally, the Final Fantasy I collaboration makes its return to War of the Visions: Brave Exvius and players may claim login bonuses and other rewards from June 16 to July 13.
From the developer PlatinumGames Inc. (NieR: Automata) comes Babylon’s Fall, an action-RPG with hack-and-slash battle elements. Originally announced three years ago at Square Enix’s E3 presentation in 2018, Babylon’s Fall received an extended trailer featuring gameplay and commentary from the developers. While the game is a single-player title, a co-op mode allowing teams of up to 4 players will also be available for dungeon exploration. Additionally, it was revealed that PlatinumGames intends on developing the title as a live-service game, in which they will add new areas and content over time and even host limited-time, seasonal events. Babylon’s Fall will be available to play on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam. While there is currently no concrete release date, registration for closed beta testing is currently open.
Life is Strange
There was a lot to celebrate for fans of Deck Nine’s existentially engaging Life is Strange series. The presentation announced a new Remastered Collection releasing on September 30th, which will include both Life is Strange and Before the Storm.
Additionally, the studio provided an inside look at the emotion-reading psychic powers central to the gameplay of the series’ upcoming new installment, True Colors. True Colors is out September 10th – and, yes, there will be an option for an Ultimate Collection which includes all three games.
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin
The final announcement of the Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase was the exciting revelation of a new spinoff from the Final Fantasy series, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Described as “A bold new vision for Final Fantasy,” the new title will be a collaboration between Square Enix and Koei Tecmo. The game is currently slated for release in 2022 and will be coming to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Trial Version is currently available for the PS5.
