More than a decade after its initial release, Star Wars: Republic Commando will be receiving a PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch port.
On the morning of February 24, 2021, Aspyr Media’s Star Wars: Republic Commando was officially revealed to be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch consoles on April 6, 2021. The game will also be available on the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. Both PlayStation and Nintendo have released official announcements and trailers confirming the game’s arrival to their respective consoles.
Star Wars: Republic Commando is a tactical first-person shooter game that was initially released in 2005 for the XBox console and Microsoft Windows. From its publication, the game has elicited a generally positive response. Star Wars: Republic Commando centers around the Delta Squad, an elite squad of clone troopers who must employ teamwork and strategy to complete missions. The game employs quintessential FPS mechanics and a tactical system in which players must lead their squads and direct them appropriately in order to reach their objectives. Some actions include search and destroy commands, demolitions, door breaches, and even team health support.
The game’s respective ports to the PS4 and Switch will reportedly see mechanic and control enhancements to better accommodate modern gameplay efficiency. Aspyr Media has assured that the game will retain its classic playing experience whilst employing more modernized game controls. The PS4 port will also feature a trophy system, in which players can complete various exploits to earn achievements.
