As we come closer to the end of 2020, Steam has published its traditional list of best-selling games of the year. While a couple of familiar titles from previous years met us at the top, some new faces have joined.
Steam separated the list into four different ranks as it always does: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. While the top games are displayed under the Platinum section, the sales numbers of the titles are decreasing towards Bronze.
Valve determined the list by reviewing the rankings between Jan. 1 and Dec. 18, 2020. The company considered the total sales of the game, which means DLCs and the in-game transactions are also counted. Here are all the games that reached Platinum in Steam:
- Doom Eternal
- Fall Guys
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- Monster Hunter World
- Red Dead Redemption II
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
- Destiny 2
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Dota 2
- Among Us
- PLAYERUNKNOWN’S Battlegrounds
Despite having a messy launch, it looks like CD Projekt Red earned what it wanted based on sales. Yes, the game works better on PCs than consoles, but still, it’s so far away from where it should be. I hope the company recovers Cyberpunk 2077 quickly, so we can enjoy the game; however, even without that, CD Projekt Red reached great sales figures it revealed a few days ago: 13 million copies sold.
Dota 2 & Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
With your permission, I want to start this part with a quote from Harry Potter: “Why is it when something happens, it’s always you two?” The fixtures of Valve did it again and found places at the top of the list once more. Even though they had bad days sometimes, these two titles never die. It doesn’t matter if they are free to play, Dota2 and CS:GO have big markets of in-game sales which make them the games that always profit.
Among Us & Fall Guys
Now for the surprises of 2020. I don’t think anybody expects something which is full of joy from this year, but thanks to Among Us and Fall Guys we spent so many great days. It’s an incredible accomplishment for both titles since one of them was released just four months ago, and the other one became a star, although its debut was in 2018. Huge congrats to InnerSloth and Mediatonic for changing the gaming world in a good way.
Imagine releasing a game in 2015, and that title keeps its place among the best sellers in 2020. There are no words to describe this success since we saw what happened when a company tries to be like Rockstar Games. Along with Grand Theft Auto V, another masterpiece from the company, Red Dead Redemption 2, managed to join the list of Platinums this year. If you haven’t played it yet, go grab it while it’s on sale.
