Steve from Minecraft Joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster

A new challenger is approaching! The world’s best-selling video game comes to the world’s most popular fighting game.

Nintendo unveiled this morning that Steve from Minecraft will be the newest addition to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster for the Nintendo Switch. This is the second character introduced as part of the Fighter Pass Vol. 2 DLC, following Min Min from Arms.

The short video presentation announcing Steve’s arrival was accompanied with short gameplay of Steve in action, where it was also revealed that he would be joined by his Minecraft cohorts Alex, Spawn, Zombie, and Enderman.

Series director Masahiro Sakurai ended the stream by explaining how popular the Minecraft series is and how challenging it was to program the attacks into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Few can get the internet buzzing like a new Smash reveal can, and that is exactly what happened mere minutes into Steve’s reveal, with over 80,000 mentions and counting and a number 1 trend on Twitter.

The Smash Ultimate DLC characters follow a tradition started in Smash 4 where Nintendo slowly releases new characters for the game in the hopes of keeping interest in the game alive.
