The Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase closed out its E3 broadcast with the exciting announcement of a brand new spinoff installment from the Final Fantasy series, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Described as “a bold new vision for Final Fantasy,” this brand new title will be a collaborative project between Square Enix and Koei Tecmo (Warriors series). Additionally, Square Enix veterans Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima will both be a part of the project, with Nomura acting as concept & creative producer and character designer, and Nojima on story & scenario.
Nomura has stated that this will be an action RPG game, as evidently exhibited in its debut trailer. While little is currently known regarding the story and setting of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, familiar faces and terms were revealed in the trailer. Garland, the main antagonist from the series’ very first installment Final Fantasy I, was probably the most recognizable element. Additionally, the mention of “Warriors of Light” and “Chaos” left much speculation to suggest that Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will be connected to Final Fantasy I. More information is expected to be revealed in the near future as the game is currently slated for release in 2022. Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will be coming to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. A trial version for the PlayStation 5 is currently available to download until June 24, 2021, along with an accompanying feedback survey.
