Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Fans of Borderlands are in for a real treat with the announcement of spin-off title Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a fantasy themed looter-shooter. Players will embark on a bizarre adventure with spellcasting, character customization, and more as they are guided by Tiny Tina the bunker master on a quest to defeat the Dragon Lord. More information is expected to be revealed this summer. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is slated to arrive in early 2022.
Metal Slug Tactics
The Summer Games Fest’s live broadcast also revealed the next installment in the Metal Slug series Metal Slug Tactics. This game takes a different spin on the classic run’n’gun nature of the series and will launch players on a tactical, RPG adventure. A release date has not yet been announced.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
The Summer Game Fest’s kickoff broadcast graced fans with the appearance of veteran game designer and founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, who officially confirmed the arrival of Death Stranding Director’s Cut. This will be an enhanced version slated to release for the PlayStation 5. More information regarding Death Stranding Director’s Cut is expected to be revealed within a few weeks.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
In an exciting announcement from actor Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World Evolution 2, the sequel to the 2018 park-building simulator Jurassic World Evolution, was revealed to be arriving later this year for the PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Steam, and Windows PC. While there is no confirmed release date, the game is expected to arrive later this year.
The popular Korean MMORPG Lost Ark was officially announced to be receiving a western release via Amazon. Developed by the studio Smilegate RPG, Lost Ark will arrive in Fall 2021.
Call of Duty Warzone Season 4
Call of Duty general manager Johanna Faries made an exciting appearance at the Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast along with a trailer for the Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 content update. Faeris also shared more information about the World Series of Warzone and what to expect.
Free Guy Trailer
Ryan Reynolds made a thrilling appearance at the Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast and showcased the new trailer for his upcoming film taking place in the gaming-verse, Free Guy. The film will focus on Reynolds playing an NPC in an open-world video game who must become a hero in order to save the game before the developers erase it for good. The film will feature cameo appearances from several famous game streamers, including Jacksepticeye and Pokimane.
Among Us Updates
The dark horse hit of 2020 Among Us was revealed to be receiving a slew of thrilling new content, including a new Hide and Seek mode, new activities, new colors, visor accessories, new roles, a new map (5), and the return of the Geoff Keighly mask. The player-count has also risen from 10 to 15 individuals. More information, including concrete release dates, will be revealed soon.
Shuhei Yoshida, head of PlayStation Indies also made a special appearance at the Summer Game Fest, sharing with audiences some intriguing indie titles to look out for, including Chicory: A Colorful Tale and Salt and Sacrifice.
The Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast gave viewers another look at the upcoming PS4/PS5 title from studio Heart Machine, Solar Ash, a game with a brilliantly surreal setting and enigmatic characters. Solar Ash will purportedly release later this year.
A launch trailer for the medieval themed first-person slasher title Chivalry 2 was released at the Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast. Chivalry 2 is currently available to play.
Valorant celebrates its first anniversary this year, giving fans an incredibly brief look at the newest agent coming to the game in its Episode 3. More information is expected to be revealed regarding the matter later this month.
Escape from Tarkov
The Summer Game Fest gave viewers an exclusive look at the new upcoming area coming to Escape from Tarkov, Streets of Tarkov. This area is currently in development for the game.
Two Point Campus
From Two Point Studios comes a brand new simulation title Two Point Campus, coming to PC and consoles. Like its predecessor Two Point Hospital, players will be able to build a highly imaginative and unique university space and create a college setting like no other. Two Point Campus will be released in 2022.
Smite x Stranger Things
The Summer Game Fest debuted the world premiere of the Smite x Stranger Things Battle Pass. The exciting collaboration between Smite and the hit television series Stranger Things will include main characters Eleven, Hopper, and even the Demogorgon as skins. The Battle Pass will arrive on July 13, 2021.
The Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast introduced a brand new game label called “Prime Matter.” The broadcast gave viewers a sneak peak into more than 12 new games that Prime Matter will be putting out. In addition, Saber Interactive is also reported to be collaborating with Prime Matter on a new first-person shooter title for the Painkiller franchise called The Anacrusis.
New World from Amazon Games
Amazon Games gave audiences a look at their brand new, upcoming MMORPG New World. New World is an open-world MMO set on the enigmatic island Aeternum, where players must unite two warring factions against a common enemy known as “The Tempest,” whose goal is to “unmake” life. New World will launch this summer on August 31, 2021.
Rocket League x Fast & Furious
Fast & Furious content will arrive to Rocket League on June 17, 2021. The Fast & Furious 3-car bundle will come with three cars from the series, the Nissan Skyline, Dodge Charger, and the brand new Pontiac Fiero.
The Summer Game Fest showcased a trailer for the upcoming, free-to-play battle royale game Bloodhunt, made by Sharkmob Games. While a concrete release date has yet to be announced, players may sign up for the Closed Alpha PC test at bloodhunt.com, which will be available from July 2 of this year.
House of Ashes
The latest game from The Dark Pictures Anthology series, House of Ashes received a story trailer at the Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast. The game will be released for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 22, 2021.
Tales of Arise
The Summer Game Fest also debuted the latest trailer for the upcoming Tales of Arise game from Bandai Namco. Tales of Arise will launch on September 10, 2021 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Preorders are currently underway.
Planet of Lana
The Summer Game Fest kickoff broadcast debuted a first look at a collaboration project between Thunderful Games and Wishfully Games, Planet of Lana. The action indie game will arrive for PC in 2022.
Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller made an appearance at the Summer Game Fest, giving fans a first look at the new skins for characters Baptiste and Sombra, as well as sharing some important content updates to the upcoming title.
Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance
The Summer Game Fest gave a special, hands-on look at Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance with Jeff Hattam, Hannibal Buress, and the WWE’s Ember Moon. The game will officially launch on June 22, 2021.
Paladins x Gen: Lock
The Summer Game Fest debuted the premiere of Paladins x Gen: Lock. This crossover combines Paladins: Champions of the Realm with Rooster Teeth’s animated series, Gen: Lock. Paladins x Gen: Lock will be released in July 2021.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin received a new trailer that debuted at the kickoff broadcast. A deluxe edition of the game was revealed as well as pre-order bonuses and character amiibos. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruins releases worldwide on July 9, 2021.
Previously announced at The Game Awards 2020, Endless Dungeon received an extended trailer at the Summer Game Fest. Players must recruit their team of heroes to dive into an abandoned space station and defend their crystal from monster hordes. No concrete release date has been set.
Insomniac Games – Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Insomniac Games’ Marcus Smith and Mike Daly made a special appearance on the livestream to share more information about the new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart game. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is currently out now for the PlayStation 5.
Far Cry 6
The Summer Game Fest had another special guest, Giancarlo Esposito, to talk about the upcoming Far Cry 6, in which he plays the role of Anton Castillo. Far Cry 6 is currently slated for release on October 7, 2021.
Fall Guys x Nier Automata Skin
The newest skin arriving to Fall Guys will be coming from the popular Nier Automata game. The skin is based off of the standard appearance of main character 2B. The 2B skin will be available from June 18, 2021.
New Game Developer: Deviation Games x PlayStation
The Summer Game Fest announced a new game developer, Deviation Games. Having worked previously on titles like Treyarch and Call of Duty: Black Ops, they have recently partnered with PlayStation and have a new IP coming up. More information on their future plans is expected to be revealed at a later time.
Back 4 Blood
The Summer Game Fest gave a quick tease on the upcoming, multiplayer first-person shooter Back 4 Blood. The trailer gave audiences a brief look at some gameplay as well as what to expect for upcoming bosses. Turtle Rock Studios will be hosting the PVP Showcase on June 13, 2021 to discuss more about the game. Back 4 Blood will officially launch October 12, 2021, with the open beta beginning August 5 to those who pre-ordered it.
The Summer Game Fest gave a sneak peek at the upcoming isometric action-adventure game Tunic. Players will take on the role of a little fox who will explore the lands, battle monsters, and uncover secrets. The demo for Tunic will be available starting June 15, 2021 exclusively on Xbox consoles.
Tribes of Midgard
The Summer Game Fest featured a trailer of the action-survival RPG title Tribes of Midgard. Boasting classic hack-and-slash gameplay, Tribes of Midgard ranges from single to multiplayer capabilities. The game will launch on PlayStation consoles and PC on July 27, 2021.
Evil Dead: The Game
Evil Dead: The Game received an extended trailer at the Summer Game Fest. The game was originally announced at the The Game Awards 2020. Players can either play as heroes or Kandarian demons and must battle, collect pages of the Necronomicon, uncover Knowby’s lost tapes, and locate other legendary artifacts. The game will release sometime in 2021.
The biggest and final announcement at the Summer Game Fest was the official reveal of Elden Ring. Featuring a new world created by the talents of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones), players will journey through the Lands Between on a quest to uncover the powers of the Elden Ring, facing many adversaries, meeting an eclectic cast of characters, and exploring complex dungeons. Elden Ring will arrive on PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and PC on January 21, 2022.
In additional exciting news, The Game Awards will purportedly return as an in-person event this year following last year’s virtual presentation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the conclusion of the Summer Game Fest kickoff event, June is slated to be jam-packed with more gaming news as E3 programs commence throughout the next few weeks.
