Dota’s premium subscription service – Dota Plus – finally received its Winter update featuring a new treasure, rewards, quests and hero tiers.
The Dota Plus Winter 2020 update features three main additions to the optional subscription service.
New Hero Tier
With this update, players subscribed to Dota Plus can now level up each of their heroes to level 30, versus the earlier limit of level 25.
The “Grandmaster Tier” adds a new hero dialogue, which players can equip for use in matches once they reach the required level. Additionally, players will now receive Dota Plus shards (the non-monetary in-game currency) instead of XP when completing any hero challenges after reaching the Grandmaster tier.
New Exclusive Treasure
The update also brings the new treasure for players to buy with their Dota Plus shards, another incentive for reaching the new Grandmaster Tier.
The Wintry Treasure 2020 is an exclusive treasure only available for purchase by active Dota Plus subscribers. The treasure has new sets for Dragon Knight, Puck, Spirit Breaker, Templar Assassin, Earth Spirit, Vengeful Spirit, Luna, Necrophos, Undying, Ember Spirit, and Centaur Warrunner, alongside a very rare drop chance courier, Hermid the Crab. The courier comes with a random cosmetic effect and color modifier.
Quests and Guild Rewards
The update also added new Dota Plus quests, which can enable players to earn a reported 115,200 Dota Plus shards.
Additionally, the guild rewards for the three tiers have been swapped out with more seasonal substitutes. The chat wheels for the Platinum tier guilds have also been replaced, bringing variety.
This Dota 2 update is the predecessor to the bigger – possibly the biggest – update for the year. In November, Valve had announced their plan to release the new hero and the 7.28 patch by mid-December.
