One of the world’s most dynamic athletes, Odell Beckham Jr., joined forces with famous gamer Dr. Disrespect last night for a two-hour mega stream, playing Call of Duty: Warzone. This epic alliance from two heavyweights in their respective worlds is the latest of a continuing trend of athletes crossing over to the streaming and gaming stratosphere. It was also Beckham Jr.’s official introduction to streaming, as he announced yesterday that he intends to do so every Monday and Tuesday throughout the 2020 NFL season. Tonight’s stream will be with CoD world champion, Seth Abner, at 8:30 pm ET on YouTube.
Beckham is best known for his electrifying highlight reel catches on the football field, but the 27-year-old wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns has long been an active member of the gaming community. Earlier this year, Beckham shared his five quarantine essentials on his YouTube channel+, one of which was a copy of Call of Duty: Warzone.
Catching bullets on and off of the gridiron, Beckham Jr. joins a long list of professional athletes who have turned to streaming as another way to express themselves and connect with fans outside of their respective sports. The NBA’s Ben Simmons, Gordon Hayward, and fellow NFL star Juju Smith-Scheuster are just a few other athletes who are also avid gamers.
Aside from being an NFL standout and resident gamer, OBJ is also a starter for ‘The Victors’ (my fantasy football team, who unfortunately last night officially suffered their first loss of the young season 😢).
