The Newest Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Zombies Map… and more!

Fans of Call of Duty Zombies like myself have been waiting for any news concerning the new Zombies map for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War (BOCW), considering how little there is to do with the base Zombies content. Now, there’s thankfully some news to keep fans enticed to keep playing “Die Maschine” just a little bit longer.

Cold War

Treyarch has announced in a blog post that the newest Zombies map – dubbed “Firebase Z” – will release on Feb. 4, and will be free to all players.

Taking place chronologically after the events of “Die Maschine,” – in which the player destroyed the facility after completing the main Easter Egg – “Firebase Z” is set in Vietnam, and is the continuation of the Zombies storyline. Fans have been speculating where the new map would take place – with some stating that it’s located near Khe Sanh – based on collectible intel scattered throughout BOCW. Treyarch’s confirmation should put those speculations to bed.

Although Treyarch stated more information about “Firebase Z” will be teased in the weeks leading up to the map’s release, a substantial amount of information was released on “115 Day.” For instance, the map will take place in an area called “Outpost 25” featuring new characters, enemies, gameplay mechanics, and a new Wonder Weapon

“Tombstone Soda” will also be making its return, previously only being featured in Black Ops II. This iteration allows players to revive themselves while in Dark Aether as a shadow armed with weapons. If the players’ health depletes to zero, they’re dead.

“Tombstone Soda” will also be available on “Die Maschine” on Feb. 4 via the “Der Wunderfizz” machine. However, it still remains to be seen if the player will be restricted to six perks or be allowed to have a seventh. Also, new scorestreaks will be available to craft as well: Artillery and a Napalm Strike.

That being said, the formal announcement of “Firebase Z” might be the shot in the arm BOCW needs to bring players back to the game. It was recently stated that BOCW’s sales have fallen way below the mark set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). For reference, BOCW hit $600 million in six weeks. Modern Warfare (2019)? Three days.

Additionally, lost in the mix is the inclusion of a new Zombies game mode: “Cranked.” The basic premise of the mode is simple: kill zombies to reset a timer in order to survive. Also, players can play “Die Maschine” and “Cranked” for free from Jan. 14 to Jan. 21, and Double Weapon XP is now live until Jan. 19.

In all, the announcement of “Firebase Z” is the Zombies news that fans have been waiting for since the release of BOCW, especially with such an original barebones Zombies offering this time around. If the comments on the announcement tweet provide any indication, fans are extremely happy that at least some new content is coming out, especially since there’s been little to none as of now.
