If you’re looking for a vacation beyond the stars, then Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment is the holiday game for you. Any of the Star Wars games would be excellent as well, but Jedi: Fallen Order has a certain appeal, allowing you to live the Jedi life and the amazing adventure taking place in the foreign world. This game is perfect for letting you take a vacation far beyond anything you could find on earth.

For a holiday filled with adventure and stunning scenery and design, look no further than Shadow of The Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, the twelfth mainline entry in the Tomb Raider series. The cinematic qualities of the design of this game would be more than enough to put it on the list, but on top of the design, it also has an amazing adventure to follow and a diverse set of characters to keep it interesting the whole way through.

If you are looking for an educational and beautiful vacation, check out Beyond Blue from E-Line Media. This game, inspired by the BBC’s Blue Planet II documentary, takes you deep into the ocean, exploring the lifeforms and scenery which can only be found underwater. This game is extremely peaceful, but also incredibly interesting. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime diving experience, all wrapped up in a game which can keep you cozy at home while delving into the mysteries of the deep.

If you’ve played any of the Grand Theft Auto games from Rockstar Games before, you know that they aren’t great for vacations in terms of relaxing gameplay, since a lot of the game is based around violence and mischief, however, Grand Theft Auto V makes the list because of its beautiful California landscape and because, if you choose to play however you like, instead of following the game plan, you can run around enjoying California and exploring the scenery. Sure, it’s not exactly what the game was made for, but sometimes, all you really want on your vacation is sunny California beaches and the possibility of murdering someone every once in a while, just to keep it interesting.

It would have been shocking if Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Nintendo wasn’t on this list. This latest addition to the Animal Crossing game domain has been the saviour of the past year, with everyone stuck inside, looking for a tropical getaway to help us forget about the state of the world for a few hours at a time. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was exactly what we needed, and with the zany characters, open plan of activities, and endless tropical views, this game is sure to remain on the list of best holiday games for years to come.

Some of the best vacations are the ones where you have the freedom to do whatever you like at any given moment, and the best games for that type of freestyle activity are open world RPGs, specifically, World of Warcraft, from Blizzard. If you’ve read my articles before, you know that WoW is pretty much my all time favorite game, and I especially love it because it lets players have almost complete control over where they go and what they do. Sure, there are areas of the map that you can’t get to (like the very edge of the sea) and if you want to keep moving forward you do need to work on some quests, but overall, WoW is completely open for any type of gameplay, and really, that’s all you can ask for in a holiday.

If it’s intrigue and beautiful views you want on your holiday, Sea of Thieves from Rare is the game for you. This adventurous, pirate-filled tropical romp is the perfect game for someone who wants a vacation both relaxing (with the beautiful tropical scenery) and insanely fun (with all of the pirates, goofy activities you can do, and all-around tomfoolery that goes on in this game). If you’re interested in Sea of Thieves but you’re not sure where to start, check out the streamer Summit1g. He is a good player, but he doesn’t take it too seriously, and he shows off a lot of fun aspects of the game. Check out his videos, and then prepare to jump into your own pirate adventure.

There’s no better option for a game to fuel your travel inspiration than a game literally about taking a vacation. Go Vacation, from Namco Bandai Games, which is available for Wii and Switch players, is the perfect game for vacay inspiration because it takes you on a vacation and lets you live out many of the mindless, delightfully simple activities of a holiday, all from the comfort of your couch or gaming chair. Filled with minigames and beautiful scenery, Go Vacation is the undeniable number one game on this list.
