Time To Make Your 2021 Gaming Goals: The Top Five Gaming Resolutions For The New Year

We all know making new year’s resolutions rarely pans out the way we want it to. You start out January first with brand new workout clothes and a plan to make a smoothie every day for breakfast, and by the end of the first week, your new clothes have become your favorite PJs and your breakfast is back to your usual bowl of sugary cereal (no judgement, Fruit Loops are the best.) The real kicker is, all of that aside, we still end up making resolutions the next year. If you are one of those people who always makes new year’s resolutions, you might as well make them fun, as well as healthy and motivational. And so, to kick off 2021 right, let’s chat about the top five gaming goals you can set for yourself in the new year to add some extreme fun to your resolution list.

Resolutions

As is the case with all new year’s resolutions, your gaming goals for 2021 will depend on your overarching goals for the new year. Your goals might center around doing less  or more gaming, they might be about beginning your gaming adventure, or finding even more ways to game. Wherever you are in your gaming experience, these top five gaming goals can all apply to any of your personal plans for gaming in 2021.

Starting off with number five: if you’ve been stuck in a rut lately, with gaming or any aspect of your life, try out a game that you have never played before and don’t know a lot about. Shaking things up is often the best way to get out of a funk, and you just might discover your favorite game. If you’re not sure where to start, check out the most popular games on Steam or scroll through a comment thread on Reddit for inspiration. You never know where you might find the best game of 2021.

Coming in at number four: if there’s anything gaming-related you’ve been wanting to do for a while, but you have been caught up in other games and activities, write it down in whatever planner or calendar you like to use. Often, when I am struggling to commit to actually finishing a project, I write it down on a specific date and it becomes much easier to actually get done.

In third place: know that there’s never a bad time to reorganize your space, including your gaming space. Take advantage of this time when everyone is posting motivational quotes and photos, and pull some of that motivation towards revamping (or even designing for the first time) your gaming center to really enhance the feeling of a new year.

In the second to last spot: know that it’s never too late to start playing a game which came out ages ago. For this one in particular, I have personal experience from Among Us. It came out quite a while ago at this point, and although I have been fully aware of its existence for a while, I only recently played it for the first time (with several of my amazing coworkers at Stropse!)

I felt a little self-conscious about the fact that most of my coworkers had already played it before and I was brand-new, but they were super easygoing about the fact that it was my first experience with Among Us (I only came off as a little bit sus when I had to stop and consult the map along the way) and I quickly fell right into the groove of the game. The lesson I learned from that experience is that, even if you’re late to the party of an exciting new game, it’s never too late to start playing. In fact, it can be kind of nice to wait, because when you do start playing, the game’s bugs will have been worked out and you’ll have lots of experienced friends and favorite streamers able to help you along.

Ringing in at number one is the always-applicable tip that sharing your hobbies and adventures with friends makes everything better. No matter what gaming you’re doing in the new year, involving your friends and finding new friends through gaming communities will make the experience that much more rewarding. Be safe and use all of the apps and sites that make it easier to game together online; that way, when we can all hang out together again (hopefully in 2021), you can have a gaming party to celebrate you and your friends’ shared love of gaming and connection.

I think we can all agree that 2020 was not a great year in many ways, but even still, we can all buckle down and find new ways to enjoy 2021. If you’re looking to make this new year a joyful one, try out these top five gaming goals throughout the year to add some enjoyment to your resolutions and enhance your gaming experience for 2021 and many years to come.
