With Valorant set to begin its sophomore campaign in 2021, Riot Games has teased its upcoming agent. Continuing their “State of the Agents” article series, the developer’s December 2020 edition revealed that Valorant’s fourteenth agent will be a duelist specializing in lurking.
With a total of thirteen agents in Valorant, Riot has released just two since the game’s release in June. Killjoy and Skye were released in August and November respectively, each two months apart from the previous. With the fourteenth agent set to release in January, Riot is keeping to that two month release cycle.
“We wanted to sneak some insight into the future here. The year will tear open with a Duelist for all you “lurkers” out there, who will keep you on your toes around which angles are truly safe,” The Valorant developers teased in their latest article.
As the game stands, there are currently four duelists in Valorant: Jett, Phoenix, Raze and Reyna. Although some of these agents can lurk, none of them excel as true lurkers. Instead, Riot has designed these agents as entry fraggers of sorts, good for rushing into a point to initiate a push.
However, Riot is always looking to innovate with their games, and a lurking duelist would for sure be a welcome innovation in Valorant.
On the lore side of things, there are currently twelve countries with at least one agent representing them; South Korea (Jett), Brazil (Raze), Sweden (Breach), United Kingdom (Phoenix), China (Sage), Russia (Sova), Morocco (Cypher), Mexico (Reyna), Germany (Killjoy) and Australia (skye), as well as two agents from the United States (Brimstone and Viper). Could Riot be planning to release an agent from another region? Or could they give more representation to one of the nations already in the game?
Either way, fans will have to wait until 2021 to see what’s in store for Valorant’s fourteenth agent.
