On December 15, 2020, in anticipation of the new year, Nintendo hosted a virtual Indie World Showcase, encompassed in a video coming in at just over 17 minutes, highlighting some of the best and brightest indie games for the Nintendo Switch that will be coming out in 2021, and some that have already been released (or will be by the end of December). With a list totaling 19 games — some familiar, and others that will be new and interestingly quirky — this showcase shines a bright light on what is looking to be an exciting year for the gaming community.

As a brief disclaimer from Nintendo, these release dates are not set in stone, as the pandemic has been changing many release dates. The dates stated in this article may change in the future.

In this enticingly quick Indie World Showcase video, Nintendo introduced 19 games that will be available on the Switch in 2021, as well as some games that are coming out this December (some of them are already here!). Without further ado, let’s get into this list of some of the most anticipated games being released on the Switch from many of Nintendo’s indie brand partners worldwide.

Spelunky and Spelunky 2 are both coming to the world of Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2021. From Mossmouth and Blitworks, Spelunky 2 is a great sequel in the Spelunky game series, with the second edition having a larger world to explore and even more secrets to discover. With randomly generated levels, and an abundance of traps and monsters to discover along the way, these games are such an exciting addition to the world of Switch games. For those who enjoy multiplayer options, an interesting note is that Spelunky will have a local multiplayer feature, while Spelunky 2 will have both local and online multiplayer options.
