Yakuza 3-6 is coming to Xbox Game Pass

With Yakuza 0, Yakuza: Kiwami and Yakuza: Kiwami 2 – the first three games chronologically – currently available on Xbox Game Pass, fans won’t have to wait long until the rest of the series releases on Xbox.

The 2020 Game Awards have come and gone. For the most part, The Last of Us Part II dominated the awards, winning Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Game Direction and ultimately, Game of the Year

The Game Awards also showcased many upcoming games like Back 4 Blood, Open Roads, a new Dragon Age and Mass Effect game, and much more. There were also a plethora of trailers for games with upcoming content such as Fall Guys announcing Season Three, Sephiroth joining the cast of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, a new map for Among Us, Season One of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, Fortnite introducing a battlebus’s worth of content in the coming weeks, and so on.

Even so, perhaps one of the more unexpected announcements was that developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio – RGG – and SEGA are bringing the rest of the Yakuza series to Xbox Game Pass, Windows 10 and Steam in 2021.

Formerly a PlayStation-exclusive series, the Yakuza Remastered Collection – featuring Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5 – and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will release on Jan. 28 and Mar. 25, 2021, respectively.

Currently, only Yakuza 0, Yakuza: Kiwami and Yakuza: Kiwami 2 are available on Xbox Game Pass. However, The Remastered Collection and Yakuza 6 have been available for PlayStation 4 for some time now.

Chronologically speaking, Yakuza 0 serves as a prequel to the series, standing as a point of introduction for the series’ main characters, Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. Meanwhile, Yakuza: Kiwami and Yakuza: Kiwami 2 are remakes of Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2, respectively.

As a whole, the Yakuza series focuses on Kiryu’s rise and fall as a member of the Tojo Clan, one of Tokyo’s most feared groups, and attempting to live a normal life after so many turbulent experiences. As is the case with stories like this, just when Kiryu thought he was out, the Yakuza pulls him back in.

Lastly, it’s also important to note that the original games were never released on Xbox during their original run. Due to Yakuza 0’s success, RGG Studios began working on Yakuza: Kiwami and Kiwami 2, eventually releasing both on Xbox in 2020. Overall, the Yakuza series has been well-received by both critics and fans, earning a somewhat cult following in the West.

Nevertheless, fans of the Yakuza series won’t have to wait long before they can play the rest of the series on Xbox, Windows 10 and Steam.
