E3 2021 left Zelda fans well fed with a slew of announcements for the series’ upcoming various content, the biggest of which was closeout feature of June 15’s Nintendo Direct: the teaser trailer for the sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In addition, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will receive an expansion pass, and a Legend of Zelda themed Game & Watch handheld was revealed in commemoration of the series’ upcoming 35th anniversary.

Nintendo originally announced a sequel to Breath of the Wild back at E3 2019. Two years later, fans finally received a teaser trailer, and as well as confirmation the game will launch sometime in 2022. The trailer featured the gorgeous setting and gameplay for the upcoming sequel, depicting numerous activities players will engage in on this new journey. Most notably, the new adventure will expand from the lands of Hyrule to the skies.
While the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still in development, more information is expected to be revealed in the future.
Along with the exciting news of the Breath of the Wild sequel, the Age of Calamity Expansion Pass Wave 1 – Pulse of The Ancients is confirmed to launch on June 18, 2021. The Expansion Pass will see the addition of the playable Battle-Tested Guardian, new weapons including the Flail for Link and the Master Cycle for Zelda, the apocalyptic difficulty setting, new challenges in the ancient royal Lab, and more. Purchase bonuses include a costume and weapon for Link, the Prototype Ancient Gear and the Prototype Ancient Sword respectively. The Expansion Pass Wave 2 is also confirmed for release in November 2021. The Expansion Pass is available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.
The Zelda content doesn’t stop there. As the series celebrates its 35th anniversary, Nintendo will be releasing a special Game & Watch handheld console in commemoration of this milestone year. The handheld will include the original game, The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Game Boy Version), and a Link version of the Game & Watch Vermin game. The handheld will also feature an interactive timer and playable clock.
Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda will officially release on November 12, 2021.
The Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation also gave another look at The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Players may use two Joy-Con controllers to engage in motion controlled gameplay or they may enjoy the game in handheld mode via joystick and button maneuvering. Skyward Sword HD once again takes players back to the very first era in the Zelda saga, in which the origins and history of the series is divulged in an unforgettable adventure and story.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD officially releases on the Nintendo Switch on July 16, 2021.
